2018 was a big year for clean energy jobs, and Texas was among the top states leading the way.
A new report says clean energy jobs grew nearly four percent nationwide last year, and Texas ranked second when it came to such jobs. According to a recent analysis by E2 (Environmental Entrepreneurs), more than 233,000 people in Texas work in solar, wind, energy-efficiency, and other clean energy jobs.
As the Houston Business Journal points out, the Lone Star State added more than 10,000 clean energy jobs in 2018. The biggest gains in clean energy jobs in Texas fell under energy efficiency.
Texas also saw gains in wind energy jobs last year, an area that seems to continue growing in the Lone Star State. According to data from the Greater Houston Partnership’s Research division, wind energy provided 17% of all in-state electricity production in Texas in 2017. Houston is home to about 30 wind-related companies, and two based here have signed contracts to purchase wind power for five years or more.
The future of the energy industry is one of the focus areas for the Partnership's strategic plan, Houston Next. Learn more about the strategy here.
