The airline's first Houston flight will inaugurate nonstop service between H-Town's most convenient airport – William P. The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) recently released its proposed 2025-2028 Transportation Improvement Program, allocating nearly $500 million to Fort Bend County for 15 transportation infrastructure projects.   The regional plan outlines a budget of $18.76 billion and seeks to improve congested roadways and highways, pedestrian mobility, public transit and air quality throughout the Houston region. Fort Bend County secured numerous projects due to unprecedented growth occurring in the area. According to Woods & Poole, the county’s population has tripled since 2000 and is expected to reach 1.8 million by 2050.  “The decisions made regarding where we dedicate our resources and what kinds of projects we choose to invest in will set the stage for how resilient we are, our ability to accommodate our region’s continued rapid growth, and what quality of life our residents have in the future,” Adam Beckom, H-GAC transportation manager, told the Houston Chronicle.   Here are a few of the major projects that are planned in the county:  2024  FM 1093: Estimated to cost nearly $32 million, this project will construct four toll lanes from FM 1463/FM359 to the west of FM 723, running through Fulshear and Richmond.   Missouri City/Texas 6 Park and Ride: This nearly $52 million project will add a new park and ride facility in Missouri City.   2025  FM 1093/FM 359: Costing $45 million, this project will cater to Richmond and Rosenberg, adding a new four-lane tollway from west of Texas Heritage Parkway to west of FM 753.  U.S. 90A: This project, estimated to cost a little over $78 million, will reconstruct and widen the area spanning from FM 359 to SH 99 in Fulshear from four lanes to six.  2026  Interstate 10: Estimated to cost $114 million, this project will reconstruct and widen the area stretching from Interstate 10 W from the Waller County Line to west of Snake Creek from six lanes to ten, running through Katy and Brookshire.   Texas 36: This $83 million project will reconstruct and widen U.S. 69 S to FM 2218 from two lanes to four, traveling through Rosenberg.   2027  FM 521: This project, estimated to cost $63 million, will widen the area stretching from the Brazoria County line to Texas 6, passing through Pearland, from two lanes to four.  2028  Beechnut Street: This project is estimated to cost $32 million and will widen the area spanning Peak Road to west of Lakehead Lane from two lanes to four.   Other major projects planned for the region include the North Houston Highway Improvement Project, construction of Grand Parkway (SH 99) segment B and construction of Busway (BRT) from IH 610 W to Downtown Houston.   Discover more about the growth happening in Fort Bend County.
