Michael Short

Partner, Bain & Company

Michael is Managing Parter for the Houston Office at Bain & Company, a leading global strategy and management consulting firm. He joined the firm as an associate consultant out of college in 2007 and has (for the most part) remained there ever since.

Michael is a member of Bain’s Energy and Natural Resources practice, where he serves clients primarily in the Oil & Gas and Power sectors. His client work spans the energy value chain, with particular specialization in topics including portfolio strategy, upstream oil & gas development and production, liquefied natural gas, midstream infrastructure, M&A, and deregulated power markets.

An economist by training, Michael has a particular interest in the evolution of energy markets in the context of various supply, demand, and geopolitical shocks to the system. He is one of a small group of partners globally responsible for Bain’s long term Energy and Natural Resources point of view and associated strategic implications for companies across a range of sectors.

Born and raised in Houston, Michael graduated from The Kinkaid School before studying Economics and Finance at Princeton University. He lives in Hilshire Village with his wife Ana, son Seb, and daughter Scarlett.

Outside of work, Michael loves to spend time sailing, cooking, fire building, and vacationing on Disney cruises. He also serves on the nonprofit boards of the Foundation for Student Communication, Inc. (dba “Business Today” – a student-run 501(c)3 non-profit organization based at Princeton), and of School of the Woods (which his children both attend).
