The facts are in. Houston continues to rank among the nation’s fastest-growing and most productive major metros. The proof is in the latest edition of the Greater Houston Partnership’s Houston Facts.
The annual publication is a comprehensive almanac covering the region’s population, economy, employment, international business, cost of living and more. Here are five insights from Houston Facts 2026.
1. Metro Houston is Nearing 8 Million Residents
The 10-county metro is home to 7.9 million residents, adding over 126,720 people between July 2024 and July 2025, a 1.6% increase.
2. Houston Has One of the Nation’s Fastest-Growing Economies
Between 2022 and 2024, the value of the region’s economic output grew by 10.6%, from $685.6 billion to $758.3 billion. That was the second-fastest growth among the nation’s 20 largest metros, trailing Seattle by just 0.1 percentage point and outpacing Dallas, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta and Miami.
3. Technology is Driving New Manufacturing Investment
Houston is the nation’s leading manufacturer, producing $126.8 billion in output in 2024. Recent investments also show how the region’s manufacturing base is expanding into advanced technologies. Notable projects announced in 2025 included Foxconn’s AI server manufacturing facility and Inventec’s electronics and AI hardware manufacturing facility.
4. Community College Enrollment Has Recovered From Pandemic Losses
The Houston region is home to more than 25 colleges and universities. In 2025, enrollment at the region’s public two-year community, state and technical colleges returned to pre-pandemic levels, strengthening a key source of education and training for Houston’s workforce.
5. Houston’s Cost Advantage Remains Strong
Houston remains one of the most affordable major U.S. metros. Living costs are 25% below the average of the nation’s 20 largest metropolitan areas, while housing costs are approximately 51% lower. Houston ranks as the third-most affordable metro among that group, an advantage for companies seeking to attract and retain talent.
