Strengthening Business Relationships With Houston Business Exchange

Published June 4, 2026 by Emily Saxton

As Houston’s industries grow and competition intensifies, organizations are looking for an advantage: stronger regional business relationships.

Houston Business Exchange (HBX), a new strategic engagement from the Greater Houston Partnership, is designed to connect corporate and institutional leaders with high-potential small and mid-sized regional businesses to build relationships that support business growth, operational resilience, and Houston’s long-term economic competitiveness.

Why HBX and Why Now

HBX was created in response to a clear need. As supply chains navigate change, competitive performance pressures increase, and business expectations continue to evolve, organizations are seeking more effective ways to identify reliable suppliers and service providers who can innovate, support operational needs, and deliver value. At the same time, small and mid-sized businesses are seeking greater visibility and more direct access to decision-makers.

HBX is designed to create more structured interactions that move beyond traditional networking. The program helps regional businesses better understand market expectations while giving corporate and intuitional leaders a more intentional way to engage with potential partners across Houston’s business ecosystem. Through the engagement, regional businesses and leaders in procurement, supply chain, operations, business development, social investment, and ESG can gain insight into:

  • Emerging regional business capabilities
  • Market trends shaping purchasing relationships
  • Evolving expectations for cybersecurity, operational readiness, and compliance standards
  • Strategies for building visibility, trust, and long-term business relationships

Real Visibility, Real Impact

HBX builds on the work of the Partnership’s Houston Business Accelerator (HBA), which focused on strengthening Houston’s business ecosystem through engagement, visibility, and opportunity creation. For participating businesses, that visibility has translated into meaningful connections and new pathways for growth.

One participant said the program led directly to a major business opportunity.

“A moment that truly stands out was receiving a call from Chevron about a large opportunity to supply electrical products to several of their locations. It was the kind of call every small business owner hopes for, and it came directly from the visibility the Accelerator provided,” stated Aundrea Young of Competitive Choice, Inc.

“The Accelerator has given me a voice, visibility, and growth… The program has also given me access to data and information that I would normally have to pay thousands of dollars for, which has been a gamechanger.”

Corporate and institutional partners also play a critical role in strengthening Houston’s business ecosystem. By engaging more intentionally with regional businesses, larger organizations can identify new capabilities, strengthen supplier relationships, and support a more resilient regional economy.

“Small businesses play a vital role in advancing CenterPoint Energy’s mission while strengthening the communities it serves across Texas. These businesses are more than suppliers — they are trusted partners that help deliver safe, reliable energy while supporting local economic growth, innovation, and workforce development,” CenterPoint Energy stated.

Amazon also emphasized the importance of supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs by stating, “We invest in the success of entrepreneurs, artisans, and small businesses selling in Amazon’s store. When they thrive, our customers benefit from the products and services they offer.”

Strengthening Houston’s Business Ecosystem

As Houston continues to grow as a global business hub, HBX reflects a broader effort to strengthen the relationships that support innovation, resilience and long-term economic opportunity across the region.

For Partnership members looking to build strategic relationships, gain visibility into regional business capabilities, or better understand evolving purchasing expectations, HBX offers a new platform for meaningful connection.
